The Man Who Sold The World

Posted by Ruok On May - 31 - 2007

It is perhaps with great irony that this was the first song I ever sang solo in public. Mike, who was my neighbour in the hostel back in my varsity days, had heard one of my many “concerts” in the showers and had approached me to do a showcase with him. He picked this song because he said I sounded “perfect” for it. I was like,”huh?!?” at that time.

And so over the next few weeks, we practiced hard at it. It was gonna be an acoustic set, with Mike on guitars and me on vocals. We practiced till I was confident of doing it. Yet, when it came down to performance day, I was still as nervous as a schoolgirl.

And how was it? To be frank, the only thing I remembered was that I didn’t get booed off stage or something. Which either meant the crowd was too polite or we did ok.

When I did the song, I never imagined I’ll end up as someone who sold the world. If I knew it was gonna be some freaking sort of prophecy, I would have done another song. Like “Sex Bomb” or something. >.<

“Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You”

Guess what. They called.

And I suppose its Your Will too (cuz I’ve prayed about it, and yet it has come to pass).

And if what I’m about to do is criminal, I’ll like to say I’ve started punishing myself already :

Today was the shoot for the short film styled corporate video.  I auditioned for a few roles, and  was gunning for the bad ass dude, but in the end, I got the one of a sleazy, horny customer instead.  Not bad, eh? ;)

Looking at the size of the cast and crew, this really didn’t look like a corporate video shoot at all.  If you stepped right in, you might be forgiven for thinking that its a film set instead.  Met a lot of familiar faces as well, and I was tickled pink when they made me wear the gangster polo tee from our movie as part of my wardrobe.  Which prompted the crew to go on about how much I wanted the gangster role in the movie lol.  These guys ah…

It was good to see Josephine again.  We first met when we were doing a dramatised reading for Theatreworks, and although we’ve been on the same projects recently, we didn’t really quite meet.  Which, as unusual as it sounds, is really quite normal in this industry.  Jo was last seen in an excellent portrayal of a wife/girlfriend of a victim of the SARS like virus in the Without Warning episode I was in.  This time round, she plays my mamasan. Kekeke.

Met Charlene as well, who greeted me with a “Mr Wong!?!” I last worked with Charlene on Missing : The Social Escorts and she was chiding me that I kenna the same kind of role again.  Yeah, right, I can’t help it if people like to see me being horny and sleazy et al, can I? >.<

I forgot to return the $100 which was given to me as a prop in the end.  I only realised it when I opened my wallet later in the evening.  But thankfully, the company has not threatened to send me a pig’s head.  :P

Wishful Thinking

Just finished watching Death Note I&II from my initially-cheap-but-turned-out-to-be-really-expensive-cuz-I-hardly-used-it-dvd-rental.

It was rather enjoyable, and the whole message about how power corrupts is delivered clearly.

I was rather distracted by the japanese actresses inside though, in particular Erika Toda, who plays Misa Amane brilliantly and Katase Nana as Kiyomi Takada (Those legs! hubba hubba hubba).

Darn. I want a japanese girlfriend.

Happy 1/2 Anniversary

To Keith and Jules.

Felt like a proverbial light bulb last night, but hey at least I got you guys a table. :P

And while it wasn’t originally planned to be a dedication to you guys cuz he was being oh-so-secretive about it, I hoped you guys had a blast anyway (yeah, its kinda like killing two birds with one stone I guess).

Thanks to Shirl and the band for letting me jam with them. I hope I didn’t turn off the crowd too much last night. But even if I did, I think you won them back anyway. ;)

On another note, I’ve made a decision but more on that and the details later.
