Half Filled Glass

“If your soul is filled with light, then life is filled with doors and path.
Embrace the brooding shadows, then everything is obstacles and adversity.”

So speaketh Joy the Dancer, sister of Light of Heaven.

And by golly, you know what, she is quite right. And what begin as a jibe to Deb, might very well be on my msn nick for quite a while.

Why

Posted by Ruok On January - 25 - 2007

Its funny. I’ve never really paid much attention to the lyrics of this song before.

But as I read the lyrics off his post and listened to the song again, it just reminded me of what had transpired between us. And perhaps, just like the song asks, deep down inside, some part of me still wants to know why.

I don’t think you know what I feel

You don’t know what I feel

Oops almost forgot about this, which I did a few weeks back.

Almost Popped The Wrong Cherry

Posted by Ruok On January - 22 - 2007

Got woken up abruptly, and I’m the kind that once stirred, will not be laid to rest easily again.

Was there earlier this morning, and was searching for the place as the rest of the gang had not arrived and it was my first visit there.

And while searching for the place… let’s just say that I don’t think I’ve been approached/picked up by so many ladies before.

The rest of the gang will inform me later that they weren’t really “ladies” in the first place.

Figures. Too good to be true, too good to be true.

Fortunately for me, I managed to keep my pants on. Not that difficult or surprising, since I was there for a different mission.

Cool On Wheels

wheelbb
“How do I bounce the ball and move forward at the same time??!”

But I am not so cool on wheels. Injured my back once again, while training together with a bunch of guys from HWA (Handicapped Welfare Association) in preparation for their coming basketball tourney. But more on that later.

Playing basketball on a wheelchair isn’t as easy as it sounds. The most basic maneuver of picking up the ball off the ground is already not easy to master, let alone controlling the direction of the wheelchair in full throttle. See the look of intense concentration in the photo above for case illustration. 😛

I was allowed to play some 3 on 3 later on and it was really quite fun. It was a bit like playing bumper cars due to the unavoidable crashing into each other when vying for the ball and a bit like playing netball also due to the height difference once you are seated on the wheelchair. Its also a good workout for the arms and the shoulders. 😉

I got convinced later to help them form another team, as I heard the take-up is slow and they really want more teams to make the tourney more interesting. Unfortunately, I hurt my back during the session and the sinseh told me to stop playing or my back will never recover… sigh.

But if you guys are interested, do sign up! And if you need to know how to play, the guys training every Wednesday and Saturday at the United World College would be happy to teach you.

UPDATE : Some of you might be worried that the sport is dangerous, because I injured my back. I’ll like to assure you that its not. My back was injured because I’ve been having a chronic back problem prior to this, and the fact that it got injured again means that my back wasn’t fully healed in the first place. In fact, I was the only casualty amongst the newbies that night… 😛 Sigh, looks like its back to “woman on top” nights for me …

Da Vinceli

Oh, another personality test. 😛

about you
You are an Inventor

Your imagination, self-reliance, openness to new things, and appreciation for utility combine to make you an INVENTOR.

You have the confidence to make your visions into reality, and you are willing to consider many alternatives to get that done.

The full spectrum of possibilities in the world intrigues you—you’re not limited by pre-conceived notions of how things should be.

Problem-solving is a specialty of yours, owing to your persistence, curiosity, and understanding of how things work.

Your vision allows you to identify what’s missing from a given situation, and your creativity allows you to fill in the gaps.

Your awareness of how things function gives you the ability to come up with new uses for common objects.

It is more interesting for you to pursue excitement than it is to get caught up in a routine.

Although understanding details is not difficult for you, you specialize in seeing the bigger picture and don’t get caught up in specifics.

You tend to more proactive than reactive—you don’t just wait for things to come to you.

You’re not afraid to let your emotions guide you, and you’re generally considerate of others’ feelings as well.

Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.

If you want to be different:
Try applying your creativity to more artistic arenas, and letting your imagination take less practical forms.

how you relate to others
You are Faithful

Your trust in others, respect for tradition, and caring nature make you FAITHFUL.

Maintaining a few intimate relationships is more important to you than knowing a lot of people, and you share a lot with your close friends.

Those who have managed to get close to you value your camaraderie, and they know that they can trust you with anything; you’re a good listener.

While you can usually see several sides of an argument, you often have a strong opinion as to which side is correct—the order of things is usually clear to you.

Your perspective on the world is based on careful observation, and you know a lot about how people feel in—and react to—many situations.

Your exploration of others’ feelings has led you to believe that although people generally act appropriately, having clear social rules is very important to a functional society.

Time alone for reflection is important to you—you are introspective and aware of your own feelings.

Faithful is as faithful does—you expect those with whom you are close to be loyal to you, and you take betrayal of your trust very seriously.

You’re not afraid to let your emotions guide you, and you’re generally considerate of others’ feelings as well.

Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.

If you want to be different:

Some of the alternate perspectives that you understand may have more value than you give them credit for—keep in mind that right and wrong aren’t always so clear-cut.

While you are able to reap the benefits of your time alone, and may see interacting with a lot of people as more tiring than exciting, remember that there is a lot to be learned from experiencing things and not just reflecting on them.

Death of vtarzman

Posted by Ruok On January - 16 - 2007

Cancelled my decade old email addy today.

Hmm, make that yesterday.

The email addy was part of a dial-up plan I took up and after a decade, I’m kinda bumped to be losing it. So why did I do it? Well firstly, I don’t really need the email account. And secondly, because the stupid Singtel refused to transfer the email account even if I upgrade to a paid Wi-Fi access. I guess that was the most important reason.

Many of my friends have always wondered about why my email addy was so weird. After a while, I also got tired of explaining how I arrived at the nick. But since this is its death, I thought I would include it in its eulogy. So here it goes :

Back then, my nick to my hostel mates was “Vman”. And I was known in MUD as “Tarzan”. So in order to help my friends identify my email addy with me, I thought it would be cool to combine the two nicks, hence “vtarzman”. In the end, I don’t think this achieved its purpose, and peeps generally were more puzzled than anything with the weird nick.

So that’s that, then. Its been a good 10 years, and its a pity in your dying days you were often the subject of much spam. May you be freed of spam in the thereafter. And may you find your vtarzwoman in the place you are going next.

You’ll be missed for sure. And I will surely miss you.

Got this kind of friend, I don’t think I need enemies lor.

Go check it out here.

Basically, this is how it works :

1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle.
3. Press play.
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing.
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button.
6. Don’t lie

Without further ado, here comes the :

End Credits :
Make This Go On Forever by Snow Patrol, Eyes Open
Not a bad song to end the movie, given such a cliff hanger last scene. 😛 “The final word in the final seconds you ever learned to me was love”
