I’ve done quite a few roles last year, and I’ll be hard pressed to name one that I’m really satisfied with. Well, I’ve just gotten a copy of a short I did late last year (in fact it was my last project for the year), and having watched it, I have to say I’m quite pleased with it.
Its a rare thing for me to do comedy, and I’m really glad I did a good job out of it. The producers tell me that they have submitted it to the local film fest, so let’s hope it manages to do well. 😛
In the meantime, enjoy the short, and do give me your feedback.
[…] and local actor cum avid blogger, Ruok is acting in this rather splendid little short film called “Kopi-O Kao” (Strong Black Coffee). I like the part where he says “Living in a condo is not a sign of a […]
Is there anywhere I can download the clip in its entirety?
With the crappy spitland interneck here, streaming video is impossible.
MSN me.
Just some comments:
1. The storyline is not very consistant, for e.g. the non-relevance of the baby-making part. I find that ex-girlfriend wanting to do abortion doesn’t quite add up. Other e.g. when Harold slipped and fell, the right arm hit the pavement first, yet, he was nursing a wound on his left elbow; the plastic bag containing the coffee was from 7-eleven, but later changed to a plain white bag.
2. For the lead male, Harold, the entire drinking coffee part is too exaggerated. Really. For e.g., when someone order coffee at the counter, self-service, the tao-chi would never “hand” you the glass of drink coz it is hot. Usually they will deliver to you or you take it from the counter yourself. Therefore for the old man to “hand” the glass of tea over to him is unusual. Another e.g. for kopi-O kao, you seldom would ask for more sugar coz you want to taste the coffee; yet another e.g.: if a paper cup as a cap with a tiny slot, that’s for you to drink from the slot, not to open the cap and drink. It is also strange to continue to want to drink coffee at 7.15++pm.
Overall, it was a good effort.
Hi Anon, thank u for your comments, hope u enjoyed the flick nevertheless. I won’t address all your comments here, cuz it would be too long. If you want, we could discuss this further via email.
I would address some plotwise comments however.
The ex-girlfriend’s relevance to the storyline is to provide irony, since Harold wants a baby badly and she on the other hand wants an abortion.
As for the kopi-o, Harold did not order the “thick” version. I must admit, the subtitling was wrong, hence maybe the confusion.
The reason why he still wants his coffee at 7+ is because he’s a coffee addict.
i only have one comment.
